I’m not sure why the left is mad at Joe Rogan. He just did what he always does. The Harris campaign made the choice, not Rogan. They could have gone on the show.
Rogan was just doing what we all should be doing: listening to people we disagree with. Now, Rogan doesn’t know everything, and things slipped by during the conversation, but that’s because conversations are like that. There is no perfect interview. He did better than most reporters do.
Do I like that he endorsed Trump? Not really. I don’t think Rogan should be giving out endorsements, since that word seems a bit overblown for the subject.
This is what is going to happen:
Media criticizing Trump will continue.
Dems will continue to alienate themselves.
Trump will fight back.
No one learns anything.
What we all should be doing is what Rogan did: sat down and talked for 3 hours with someone he had been discounting the past 10 years, since freakin’ Trump came down that damn escalator to announce he was running for the first time.
If we all would let our shields go down and stop immediately attacking people or their beliefs… things would get better. Seriously. That is all it takes.
The best offense is a good defense.
Mark Twain was right about fools, of course. His forest rules, too.
“If you can’t beat them, join them.”
Remember the thought that we are all much CLOSER to each other than DISTANT. Well, it is true.
Democrats need to get their shit together. As corrupt as a person Trump is, Dems are also corrupt. And it all stems from campaign financing… but I won’t go on that rant again.
Dems lost, and they lost badly, but working with Trump on some things CAN help society. We just need to pick the right things, but a problem with that is it will take years for the political climate to cool.
But that would require thinking about the future past the next election or poll. It would take a concerted effort WITHIN each party to try and actually work things through. And the only way that will happen is when the donors tell the politicians when and what to do.
Layers of the cake needing addressing:
Campaign financing.
Criticize WITHIN, not OUTSIDE all the time.
Be authentic.
Our government sees policy as a business opportunity, not a way for people to be helped.
Hypocritical bitches.
But you know, business is booming right now for their political economy, so no chance it gets smaller. It will continue just to grow as more and more regular people get involved in an easier media to navigate.
And now I am back to my original point. You WANT non-political talkers that you know to be honest with what they are thinking. Especially when the media and politicians are always talking in bad faith.
The problem is, Rogan’s endorsement came right before the election, so it wasn’t able to play out. Instead, he just sees it as he won. And he did. Because now he has the ability to use his criticism of Trump in the future to help normalize MAGA.
Rogan deserves all the credit in the world for executing a career that changed media forever. Podcasting was going to be around regardless, but he brought a casual tone, and that I think people want the most. They want things to settle down.
I’ve listened to at least 10k hours of Rogan. I know the persona pretty well that he has on his podcast, on his stage, etc. I feel like I can spot his blind spots when it comes to politics. But ultimately, I think it is best if he just stays out of it and doesn’t pick sides. Not because I want the Dems to win, but because when you try to persuade… you are wanting something.
So, I welcome this new age of Rogan on top of CNN, MSNBC, and Fox.
